Misfits & DAZN: X Series 007 : LONDON

May 13th saw the 7th edition of Misfits boxing, held in the English capital at London’s OVO arena Wembley. Misfits mainstays such as founder KSI, his little brother Deji and fan favourite Salt Papi headlined the show in their usual theatrical fashion.

The undercard featured bouts between Spain’s ViruZz and DK Money, Influencer Tennessee Thresher and singer Paigey Cakey, as well as Lingerie model Lil Bellsy verses influencer Lil Kymchi. The final bout on the undercard holds a new record for being the heaviest bout of all time, youtubers Wings of redemption verses Boogie2988.

As has become customary in influencer boxing, the event was choc full of theatrics, celebrity attendants, disses, call-outs, knockouts, Ringside boxing gear, upsets and controversy (needless to say a successful evening).

KSI seemed to dominate Fournier in the first round, boxing at a high tempo throwing big shots. The second round was concluded from what appeared to be a great shot thrown by KSI, connecting with the head of Fournier. The replays showed a vastly different story however, as it was determined that KSI had actually thrown a textbook Muay Thai style elbow to drop his opponent. After a buzz of controversy from the media and an appeal from Fournier, the result was overturned and the bout was deemed to be a no contest.

The co-main event starring creator Deji (KSI’s little brother) and rapper Swarmz, ended up going the distance with both showing significant improvements in their boxing ability. Both boxers landed some decent shots, however Deji was able to land a unanimous decision on the scorecards as he comfortably controlled the fight from the off – a good decision from the referees.

For the remaining fights on the main card, we saw Salt Papi take on Anthony Taylor and Viruzz take on DK money. Both Salt and Viruzz donned our Pro-contest Alpha fight gloves, and certainly did well to emulate the appearance of true professional boxers. Salt Papi had previously gained the crowd’s favour with top performances against Andy Warski and Josh Brueckner, and looked like his boxing training had really helped develop him develop good boxing fundamentals. Despite this, the step up to Anthony Taylor proved too much for Salt, who was dominated throughout leading to a unanimous decision for Taylor.

One of the most exciting contests of the evening came from Viruzz and DK Money. The bout started very aggressively, with both boxers squaring up and throwing punches from the sound of the first bell. The inexperience of both fighters was clear, as Viruzz seemed to place his defensives on the backburner, getting dropped by Money after an all too easy counter. Despite not spending more time to rest on the canvas, Viruzz got up and continued the gameplan of throwing wild shots. After a sweet connection to the face of DK Money, the fight was concluded after a flurry of shots from Viruzz culminating in the best KO of the night (excluding the elbow from KSI).

Undercard results saw Paigey Cakey take a unanimous decision over Tennessee Thresh, Little Bellsy also getting a unanimous decision over Lil Kymchii and WingsOfRedemption defeating Boogie2988 via TKO in the second round.
